Water hardness
Water hardness
Natural water contains mineral salts. Water hardness depends on the character of soil through which it passes: calico soil gives hard water; granite and sandy soil soft water. Water hardness means the amount of calcium and magnesium present in water.
Hygienic limit of calcium and magnesium concentration is a recommended value, the concentration optimal for health is between 2 – 3,5 mmol/l. The amount is measured in mmol/l and recalculated into German or French degrees.
| German degrees: | 1 mmol/l=5,6° |
| French degrees: | 1mmol/l=10° |
Water hardness scale:
| very soft | 0 - 0,7 mmol/l |
| soft | 0,7 - 1,3 mmol/l |
| medium hard | 1,3 - 2,1 mmol/l |
| quite hard | 2,1 - 3,2 mmol/l |
| hard | 3,2 - 5,3 mmol/l |
| very hard | >5,3 mmol/l |
In the area operated by Vodakva is surface water mostly used for water treatment, so the delivered drinking water in most of the area is soft or medium hard.
