Water and sewer rates are regulated by the Czech Government; it means that only economically justified costs and a reasonable profit are included in the calculation. Vodakva as an operator of water infrastructure submits a proposal of the price calculation mostly for one-year period. This proposal is then approved by municipalities’ representatives within Water Management Association of West Bohemia Region, the owner of water infrastructure.
Water and sewer rates
The price paid for provided water services consists of two parts - water rate and sewer rate.
The water rate covers the drinking water supply and other water supply services. The quantity of water supplied from the public network is measured with the billing water meter, which is installed at the entry into the building.
The sewer rate covers the wastewater discharge and treatment. The quantity of discharged wastewater is set according to the quantity of supplied drinking water. As for sludge treatment from the septic tanks and cesspools, the contract prices are set.
If there is no water meter installed, the quantity of used water is determined according to water demand guiding figures specified in Decree No. 428/2001 of Code of CR, which is to implement “Act on Public Water and Sewerage Services…” No. 274/2001 of Code of CR.
In case that a building is used to the commercial purposes, the company bill also includes charges for rainwater discharge, the quantity of it is calculated according to the size of the roof surface and other areas connected to the sewerage network.
Two-component water and sewer rates
Since January 1, 2002 two-component water and sewer rates have been valid in the area operated by Vodakva. That was made possible by introducing the “Act on Public Water and Sewerage Services …” No. 274/2001 of Code of CR about the water supply and sewerage networks for public use. This new way of billing was approved by the general assembly of The Water Management Association of West Bohemia on October 18, 2001.
In fact this means that the customers pay a fixed sum in each invoice according to the size of the installed water meter and a variable sum according to the used quantity of drinking water. Rates in the variable part for 1cubic meter of used water are the same for all customers.
Do you know how much a litre of used water for households is?
The price in the variable part is set for one cubic meter of water that is 1,000 litres. To this we add the payments in the fixed part and the result is that one liter of used water (delivered and discharged) costs about 6 halers. If the average daily consumption is 100 liters per person, we pay for the water about 6 CZK a day (VAT included).
