Water distribution

The drinking water flows by gravity or mostly by pumping to water tanks in different supply zones which serve to regulate the morning and evening rush-hour consumption. Today the filling of most tanks is controlled automatically, with the help of central computer from control room of Vodakva headquarters. Then water enters the water supply network and is delivered directly to customers.

Vodakva has in total 1450 km of water distribution mains. In order to supply water without interruption some individual water supply networks have been interconnected in the past and five supply systems have been created. These systems are still being extended.

Water Supply System of Karlovy Vary Region is the largest one within the area operated by Vodakva. It delivers water supply to the cities of Karlovy Vary, Chodov, Ostrov (since 2002), Horní Slavkov (since 2005) and other municipalities in the region of Karlovy Vary and Sokolov – in total 24 municipalities and 110 000 inhabitants. This water supply system is 524 km long, water for this system comes from Water Treatment Plant Březová (source Stanovice reservoir) and from Water Treatment Plant Plavno (10 % of drinking water).

Water Supply System Tachov-Bor- Planá delivers water to 13 municipalities in the region of the Tachov region. The source of water for this system is the Water Treatment Plant Svobodka and Branka spring field. The system is 209 km long, the number of supplied inhabitants is 21 780.

Water Supply System Žlutice-Toužim delivers water to the south part of the region of Karlovy Vary, in total 13 municipalities and 14 510 inhabitants. In 2004 the system was extended to the regions of Teplá and Bezdružice. The source of water is the Water Treatment Plant Žlutice, the length is 222 km.

Water Supply System Stříbro delivers water to the cities of Stříbro, Kladruby and Vrbice in the region of Tachov – in total 9 000 supplied inhabitants. The supply system is 57 km long; the source of water is the Water Treatment Plant Milíkov.

Water Supply System Jáchymov delivers water to the north mountain part of Karlovy Vary region, in total 5 municipalities. The source of water are the Water treatment Plants Myslivny and Hřebečná, the length is 74km and the number of inhabitants supplied from this system is 4 600.

Besides these huge water supply systems Vodakva operates many individual small extent distribution networks with local sources which deliver water to one or two municipalities.
